On this 4th of July, we’re taking a look back at the beginning with this epic film from director Ridley Scott. Released on the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ voyage to America, the film is a fictional retelling of Columbus’ journey and his “discovery” of the New World. 

Starring Gerard Depardieu, Armand Assante, and Sigourney Weaver, the film is a highly fictionalized and dramatized account of Columbus’ life and was a massive financial bomb when released.
